YOUR MUSIC MINISTRY SHOULD
Have A MESSAGE:
Essentially, we sing our revelation of God in songs. If you are a music minister, then you are really a minister of the word in songs. Therefore, Jesus is our message. Our mode of expressing Him may differ from person to person, minister to minister, but our message is HIM. And the thrust of every music ministry should be two folds – TO GLORIFY (GOD), and to EDIFY ( Humanity). Such is the job description of the Levites, to minister to God and His People.
Our songs should really be an overflow of our walk with God. To not know the God we sing about is to worship amiss and in vain. Matt 15.
Have A “SOUND”: This refers to your uniqueness. Your voice, your signature. Your unique mode of expression. When I hear a trumpet line in a gospel song, I should be able to tell right away that’s Phil Driscoll without seeing the album sleeve. When a loved one calls you with an unknown number, and you are able to tell from the first Hello! Who it is. That’s knowing them from their VOICE or SOUND. We may sound like other people, but ultimately you should sound like you. Your music and ministry should have a clear unambiguous sound that’s exclusive to you. And guess what? Just the way we all have exclusive and peculiar finger prints, so can our sounds differ. When people try to copy and sound so much like other people, it’s simply a function of not knowing who they are and what they have. We may learn and pick up things from others as we journey along, but There is a YOU that’s in YOU that people want to hear. And you find this by finding your self first, in God.
Have A PLEASANT FRAGRANCE : we all emit different aura and fragrances. And by this I refer to our attitude and character. When your name or ministry is mentioned, what aroma does it give off? What’s the general impression that people have about you. Don’t get me wrong, some people will just dislike you regardless. They’d just think of you in a negative light even when most of what they believe about you is not the case. But the truth is, regardless of such folks, if our lives produce pleasant fragrances, most will testify of Christ is us.
